Rooted in Nature, Guided by Science
It all starts with the seed
Rasi’s seed contributes not only to agricultural communities but also to the nation’s food, fodder, and fibre security. The hallmark of every Rasi seed lies not only in its genetic purity but also its ability to shine in various agroclimatic conditions and consistently meet evolving cultivation needs.
Each cultivar is identified and graded for production and distribution only after years of rigorous evaluation across research farms nationwide. Every seed is assessed for yield potential, adaptability to biotic and abiotic stresses, geographic suitability, and genetic integrity.
The company operates more than 350 acres of dedicated research farms to conduct trial runs for all the crops.

From Lab to land
“Built in the lab. Validated in real-world conditions. Proven in cultivation.”
Research at Rasi begins with real agronomic challenges and production realities. The company has built strong credibility in agricultural biotechnology through consistent performance across diverse growing environments.
Breeders and scientists remain closely connected to every cultivar’s journey, from controlled trials and seed production to large-scale cultivation. Present both in laboratories and across production landscapes, they ensure scientific innovation translates into dependable performance.

Meet the minds behind Rasi
Principal breeder - The Principal Breeder for crop leads hybrid development through systematic crossing programs, multi-location evaluations, and careful trait stabilization. The focus remains on yield potential, fibre or grain quality, stress tolerance, regional adaptability, and any other crop-specific requirements.
Each hybrid undergoes multiple seasons of rigorous testing before advancing toward commercialization, ensuring performance stability and genetic strength.

Molecular & Biotechnology Scientist - Supporting breeding with precision tools
The Molecular & Biotechnology Scientist supports breeding programs by identifying molecular markers and trait-linked data to premptively select promising parental lines early in the breeding cycle.
By enhancing selection precision and efficiency, it accelerates hybrid development while maintaining the genetic diversity essential for long-term breeding success.

Agronomy & Crop Physiology Specialist - Validating performance under real conditions
The Agronomy & Crop Physiology Specialist evaluates crop performance across varying soil types, nutrient regimes, planting densities, and climatic conditions.
This work ensures that each hybrid performs consistently across diverse agronomic practices and farmer-managed environments, strengthening the link between research and field application.

Field Trials & Evaluation Lead - Testing across geographies and seasons
The Field Trials & Evaluation Lead coordinates multi-location and multi-season trials, systematically capturing data on yield, plant vigour, maturity, disease reaction, and stress tolerance.
Insights from structured field data and on-farm validation support final hybrid selection and refined agronomic recommendations.

Seed Production Specialist - Preserving genetic purity at scale
The Seed Production Specialist oversees parental line maintenance, hybrid seed multiplication, isolation planning, and other protocols to maintain genetic purity.
Through rigorous field inspections and controlled production processes, genetic integrity and uniformity are preserved at scale. Their work spans across 50,000 acres of seeds produced by Rasi production farmers.

Quality Assurance & Seed Testing Expert - Assuring seed performance before it reaches farmers
The Quality Assurance & Seed Testing Expert monitors germination percentage, physical purity, moisture content, seed vigour, and seed health parameters to ensure compliance with defined quality standards.
“Every Rasi’s product is the result of coordinated science—bred with precision, tested across environments, produced with care, and validated in farmers’ fields. This is how our research truly moves from the lab to the land”

A Legacy of Innovation Since 1988
Cotton breeding research at Rasi began in 1988 at Attur, Salem District, Tamil Nadu, under the leadership of Dr. M. Ramasami. Guided by the vision of Shri R. Krishna Moorthy, the program was built on a strong foundation of systematic breeding, field evaluation, and farmer-focused innovation.
A major milestone was achieved in 1992 with the release of the first series of cotton research hybrids - RCH1 and RCH2. Among them, RCH2 gained widespread recognition for its outstanding yield performance in farmers’ fields, establishing a new performance standard in cotton hybrid productivity and reinforcing Rasi’s leadership in cotton breeding.

Expanding Genetic Excellence Across Zones
Over the years, Rasi has developed cotton hybrids tailored to diverse agro-climatic regions of India. Our breeding programs focus on:
-
Adaptability across zones
-
Multiple staple length categories
-
High fibre strength
-
Tolerance to major biotic stresses
-
Yield stability under varying field conditions
This strategic, forward-looking approach has strengthened the resilience and regional suitability of our cotton portfolio.

Scale of Contribution
Rasi Seeds has released a total of 81 cotton hybrids, distributed across major cotton-growing regions:
-
23 hybrids for the North Zone
-
34 hybrids for the Central Zone
-
24 hybrids for the South Zone
Notably, 12 hybrids have received official recognition through notification in the Gazette of India, reflecting regulatory compliance and national-level validation.
